Casey Has Been Adopted!
Hi! My name is Casey and I am a very lovable, very sweet, silly, and good-hearted, 2 year-old, neutered male Treeing Walker Coonhound mix. As much as I love my current foster home, the rescue and my foster parents are hoping someone out there without cats would be willing to take over fostering me....or if someone wants to adopt me that would be even better! You see, when I first came to my foster home I was so shy and uncomfortable that I didn't pay any attention to the cats in the house. Once I felt at home and became more comfortable in my surroundings, I remembered that I am a Coonhound and I started chasing the cats! I actually did catch one in my mouth once, and even though he didn't get hurt, my foster Mom said it's time to look for a new foster (or permanent) home for me.
Before I came to my foster home, I spent a year in a local shelter where I had to be crated most of the time. Even though they took good care of me, I was so scared. You see I am very shy and timid around strangers. Every time I came out of my crate, my tail was always between my legs and I would slink real low to the ground and pull on my leash to get as far away from people as possible. How sad is that, right? In my foster home though, once I warmed up to my people, I became confident, playful, and oh so happy! I love running around with the other two dogs in my household. I try to get them to play, and sometimes they don't want to but that's ok - I still play by myself! I absolutely love squeaky toys, they are just so cool and fun I can't believe they exist! I do this silly thing where I throw a toy up in the air, watch it land a few feet away from me, then hop and pounce on it and do it all over again. Such fun! Though a crate was my "safe place" at the shelter, I don't want anything to do with one in a home. When my foster mom tried to get me to go in a crate, I absolutely panicked. I must associate crates with my time in the shelter, but I am so much happier free of crates and leashes, and would need a home that allowed me to roam free in the house. I am doing great with housebreaking but still need consistency. I only seem to be able to hold it up to 4 hours or so, but I do prefer to do my business outside, so as long as I have access and continued training, I should do well. I am mostly shy of new people, but it doesn't take me too long to learn to trust. I trust women much quicker and easier than men though. I barked at my foster dad for a few weeks every time I saw him, until one day I finally realized he wasn't going to hurt me and I stopped! I still growl at him every once in a while, but I have really come a long way. I have also learned "sit" and "down" in a very short amount of time so my foster Mom thinks I would do very well in a positive training class.
I need a home with loving, caring, patient people who understand it might take me a little while to get used to them and to trust them. My foster Mom says that I act just like a "normal dog" when there aren't any strangers around. I also need a home with a fenced in yard. I do not do my business on a leash, and I just love to run around and sniff and chase small animals and play. I would love another dog or two to play with but it's not necessary. I am submissive to a dominant dog though I will "test the waters". I don't bark much unless a stranger comes into the room or I can see them through my fence. Oh - and everyone who meets me in person tells my foster Mom how beautiful I am. The pictures don't really do me justice if I do say so myself!
Please - if you are interested in fostering or adopting me fill out an adoption application and you can talk to my old foster Mom who knows me so well and can answer any questions!
