Sophia Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Sophia, and I am an adorable, sweet, affectionate, lovey-dovey (once I get to know you!) 1 year-old, 28 pound, spayed, female white Bull Terrier mix!

I am a complete love (when I am comfortable) and all I want to do is please my people and play and have fun, and I am extremely good with other dogs, I am being fostered by a wonderful woman who runs a doggy daycare, so I spend all day, every day at the daycare with loads of other dogs. I'm also fine with cats, I pretty much ignore them. I love playing tug-of-war and I love my stuffed toys!

I am full of energy but with good daily exercise (like walks or playing with other dogs), I settle down nicely and enjoy laying on your lap getting my belly rubbed. :) I am housebroken and am crate trained. At daycare, I am a social butterfly with the other dogs, and have very good doggy social skills. The daycare is offering 4 free sessions there for my adoptive family!

I probably was mistreated in the past, because I can be very wary and scared of strangers. I have even nipped a few people when I got very scared. My foster mom (and the rest of the staff at the doggy daycare) are helping me to feel more secure by letting me meet strangers on my terms. They tell strangers to do calming things, like looking away from me (eye contact can be scary!), and letting me come to them when I feel ready. It's helping a lot! As long as people don't let strangers do scary things like come toward me when I'm not ready, and as long as people don't put me into situations that are too much for me, I will continue to feel more confident over time.

I am a very caring, loving, and loyal dog and they tell me I deserve a chance at a good life with a loving family or person. Could that be you?

My ideal home will be a generally calm and quiet one, without people coming and going very much, and with no children. I would do best with adopters who had some dog experience, and really understood how to keep me from being overwhelmed or stressed, and how to keep others safe from my fear behaviors. I am a super sweet girl, everyone who has had a chance to get to know me raves about me. I hope you will give me a chance!

If you are interested in me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
