Sammy Has Been Adopted!
Hello! My name is Sammy and I am a very handsome, sweet-as-honey, easygoing, and laid-back, 10-11 year-old, 65 pound, neutered, male Golden Retriever/Collie mix!
I came to Ithaca from a high-kill shelter in Ohio, where shelter folks worked round-the-clock to find me a rescue, because I was so unbelievably sweet and loving, they couldn’t bear for me to be euthanized. I am so grateful that they thought I was so special!
I am truly a sweetheart, head-to-toe, through and through, and I have impeccable southern manners. The local vets here couldn't stop cooing about how wonderful I am, as did the groomer who got me cleaned up and handsome, and as does everyone who meets me. I’m just a love. Everyone who meets me says, "Oh, wow, such a great boy! Such a great personality! Such a sweetheart!" I love being around people, am terrific with other dogs and with cats, and am happy and relaxed all the time. I’m very easygoing, adaptable, and am pretty much always in a good mood.
And I'm not only great with people, I'm also terrific with other dogs and cats. I’m very respectful of them, and enjoy their company when my people aren’t at home. I love going for relaxed, ambling walks with my people, and enjoy hanging around outside when they are gardening. Of course I am housebroken and certainly am too old to be chewing on anything in the house, which is just 1 of the many, many wonderful things about adopting a senior dog like me! All I need is a love, attention and good medical care, and I am a super happy boy!
I’ve gotten amazing veterinary care since coming into rescue. The great vets at Cornerstone Vet Clinic checked me out from head to toe several times and have run several blood panels on me. They say that I am in pretty darn good shape! I do have low thyroid, which is super common for dogs and very easy to treat (just 1 pill, twice a day) and I have arthritis in my back legs and hips. When I first arrived, I was in a great deal of pain and had great trouble with my mobility, but wow, you should see me now! I almost prance when I walk and seem about 500% more comfortable when I go up and down stairs, and get up from laying down. I’m honestly a new dog! The rescue folks have been treating me with a combination of joint supplements, omega 3s, a careful diet, some pain meds (not too much, which is great!), and occasional acupuncture appointments. In combination, this has been nothing short of miraculous for my mobility and comfort! Whoever adopts me will want to keep up this treatment plan, so that I can stay as happy and mobile and healthy as I am now.
If you are looking for a loving sweetheart of a companion who just wants love and attention and to be near you, I am your boy!
