Piper Has Been Adopted!

***Piper is not a CDR dog. This is a courtesy posting for her current owner, who will make all decisions about Piper's new home. See end of bio for info on how to apply for Piper.***

Hi folks! My name is Piper, and I am a very sweet, adorable, 3 year-old Beagle/Dachshund mix with loads of personality, sweet happy energy, and a very joyful outlook on life! I like to follow my mom around and gently curl up next to her when she is hanging out, which is very sweet and adorable. I'm not one of those kissy-kissy or lapdog types though, so if you are into that, I might not be your boy.

I absolutely love nice, friendly, caring people. It's such a miracle for me, because I probably didn't have any when I was much younger. I was found abandoned in a park and was taken to a noisy shelter (a very anxiety provoking place) where I stayed for 2 months until I was rescued by my present owner. Thank goodness!!!

When she first got me, I would shake with fear and anxiety all the time. I've been with her for going on a year now, and I am SO MUCH more relaxed!!! Though I am a little timid at first with strangers, I warm right up to you if you rub my velvet ears or scratch my back! Yum!!

I love to be outside and I run in leaps and bounds, sometimes in big circles with my ears flying out to the side! This seems to delight and crack people up. For running off-leash, I definitely need a fenced in yard because I like to run with my nose to the ground (like all beagles) and get distracted and forget to come back (like most beagles!). I love to take long walks on a leash though, so if you don't have a fenced yard, that's ok as long as we get to do lots of daily walks together.

I get along fine with other dogs. The old dog in my current home prefers to lay around a lot and she gets annoyed with me when I try to play with her. She also gets annoyed if I try to share her dogbed. And I adore playing fetch and tug-o-war with my squeaky toys but (sadly) this makes the old dog uneasy and unhappy. I'm a very good girl though....even though sometimes the older dog growls at me, I never growl or bark back at her.

It's sad for my mom and me that she needs to find me a new home, but her work hours have increased a lot (and are going to stay that way), and she isn't home enough to give me the attention and exercise and care that I need. She also hoped that her older dog would enjoy a 2nd dog in the house for company, but unfortunately this turned out to be not the case. Though mom loves me a lot, she thinks I would be happier in a home where I wasn't alone for such long stretches of time, and where, if there was another dog in the house, he or she was happy to have me there.

I am mostly housebroken but I do have accidents occasionally, mostly when my mom works long hours. I sleep in a crate at night and I travel well in the car. I seldom bark and I tolerate small children all right, though very much appreciate if their parents don't let them harass me. I have never met a cat so I don’t know how we would get along.

I am very healthy, spayed, up to date on my shots, taking my monthly heartworm meds and have been micro-chipped. I am looking for my forever home with someone who is patient, loving and gentle, and who likes to play and go for fun walks!

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
