Hi everyone! My name is Pepper and I am a super friendly, super loving, adorable and energetic, 4 year-old, 90-pound, spayed, female Great Dane/Lab mix!

*****Pepper is not a CDR dog and has not been evaluated by CDR. This is a courtesy posting for her current owner, who will make all decisions about Pepper's new home. Please fill out an online adoption application if you are interested in Pepper, and the rescue folks will forward it to Pepper's mom***

My mom is terrific and loves me to pieces, but she knows that a big, young, strong dog like me needs lots of exercise and lots of good, positive training and she unfortunately does not have the time to give me these things. Though it's difficult for her to let me go, she knows that it's the right thing to do for me.

Things you should know about me...I'm very happy and very friendly and I love to snuggle with people. I love it best when people are around and want to play with me, pay attention to me, or just hang out near me. I also love to run and go for walks, though I confess that I need work to learn how to walk nicely and not pull when I am walking on leash. I think I just need lots of practice and some help, and promise that if you put me in a nice no-pull harness (like a Sensible or Easy Walk or Gentle Leader), and practice with me, I will get better as fast as I can!

Since I have a lot of good energy, I hope to find a home with folks who want to go for great long walks or hikes every day. I also wish so much for a home with a fenced yard, where I can run around to my heart's content, hopefully with you throwing balls or rope toys for me to chase! I do love playing with rope toys and balls, and will even throw them for myself sometimes! :)

I would also love it if someone had the time to take me to positive training classes. All the attention! The 1-1 with a person! The treats! It would be fabulous.

I have been living with a 12 year-old Lab, and we have gotten along just fine. I haven't had a lot of experience meeting other dogs though, so chances are I might need some work on that. I am not good with cats though (definitely seem to see them as prey), so I may not live in a home with cats.

I am housebroken and am past my puppy chewing phase, and don't do anything destructive in the house. Right now, since I am under-exercised, I am a "little much" in the energy department, but my mom (and the rescue folks) guess that if I started getting some regular, daily exercise, coupled with some good basic training, I would likely be a perfectly wonderful girl in no time at all.

I hope you will open your heart and your life to a beautiful, young girl like me. If you are active and love us big dogs, I promise you a lifetime of laughter and joy and awesome snuggling. If you think you might like to adopt me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
