Parker Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Parker, and I am a delightful, playful, sweet, and friendly, 4-month old, 20 pound, neutered male English Pointer/Beagle mix! I was saved from a high kill shelter in Ohio, and love my foster home in NY!

I am a super great little guy with a wonderful personality and disposition! I am full of curiosity, happy energy, and playfulness! I love people, love their attention, and love getting petted and played with. I like to sit in your lap and get kisses on my head and face. I also like to give little kisses and I have very sweet puppy breath! One of the things my foster mom likes best is this snuffling sound I make when you are kissing, and petting me. She calls me the little snuffleupagus, and she thinks it's extra adorable.

I am also proving to be a very smart little guy. I caught onto clicker training right away, and in just 1 week, I have learned a ton of stuff including sit, wait, down, and not to jump up on my crate when I want to be let out. I am learning that nice manners (sitting, being calm, being patient) gets me wonderful rewards, and so that's what I am doing almost all the time! I'm still a puppy though, and need reminders about what is ok to chew on (chew toys) and what is not (shoes, wood molding, wooden table legs), but am pretty easily redirected when i make mistakes. i'm about 80% housebroken, and can hold it about 4 hours at this point.

I also really like other dogs and want to play with them when I meet them. My rough-and-tumble play style isn't every dog's cup of tea, and am learning that not all dogs want to play back. It's a little frustrating for me, but I'm getting it! When none of the other dogs want to play with me, I just play on my own with my toys! I do love toys...I have a favorite stuffed shark that I sleep with, and enjoy lots of other stuffed toys, and definitely enjoy chewing on some hard things like rope toys and bones. I enjoy going for walks a great deal, and am a pretty good walker, not much pulling at all! I might end up being a 45 pound dog when I am all full grown, though I warn you that it's really hard to predict that!

I'm a healthy, great little guy, that with a little guidance and training, is going to be a phenomenal dog. If you think you might like to adopt me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
