*** Nikki is in Salty Dog Rescue in Schuyler County. This is a courtesy posting for them. Please read the info at bottom of NIkki's bio for how to apply for Nikki! She sounds like a super wonderful girl!!***

Hi my name is Nikki and I am a very sweet, friendly, 5-6 year old, female Husky/Shepard mix. I have a lovely, sweet temperament, and I have the most beautiful coat you have ever seen. My mom rescued me a few years back from some very mean men. They hit me and hurt me all the time...they even broke my leg on purpose. Thank goodness my mom rescued me, because life has been incredibly better since.

Because of my rough start, I am a bit shy, but I don't have a mean bone in my body. When I first meet people I like to take it slow and make sure they are kind (I'm sure you can understand), but after a bit of time, I am very excited to know you and want to play and just be with you! I am all sweetness and am just so overjoyed to be safe and loved and cared for. You can see in my eyes and the wag of my tail how appreciative I am of every new day.

Unfortunately, my Mom is moving and though she loves me very much, she can't take me with her so promises that she will find me the best home ever! I would really like a new person/family who has some time to help me learn some skills that I haven't had a chance to learn yet, like walking nicely on a leash, and coming when called. I would really like to run and exercise but my kennel is a bit too small for that, so I look forward to going for walks and hikes and maybe even jogs with you, though I think I would have to get into better shape first probably!

Currently I spend alot of time alone, so I am not so sure of what is expected of me, but I really want to please all the people I meet, and I'm smart and will learn what you want me to, I'm sure. I need someone who will only use positive training techniques with me; given my abusive past--any aversive or punishing methods would make me feel very unsafe and would make it hard for me to trust you. A good bath and brushing would make me the beauty I once was and I can't wait for that!

I am so hopeful to find a wonderful new forever home!! I am healthy and will be up to date on shots and spayed before I go to my new home. If you are interested in me, please submit an online adoption application and Cayuga Dog Rescue will forward it to the Salty Dog folks.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
