Marty Has Been Adopted!

Hello! My name is Marty and I am an adorable, energetic, 1-2 year old, 14-pound, neutered, male Chihuahua/Dachshund mix!

I came from a high-kill shelter in Kentucky and am just so happy to have a second chance at a forever home here in New York.

During the day I love to run around and play with my foster-sister. While I may only weigh 14 lbs, I can hold my own against my 60 lb sister! We wrestle all day, and I just love running around her in circles, proving how much faster my little legs can run.

When I’m not playing, I love giving lots of kisses and cuddling with my foster mom. Recently, I figured out that I can maximize my cuddle time if I crawl into my foster mom’s lap and give her big puppy eyes. It’s seemed to work so far! However, one thing that makes me anxious is being picked up. While I love getting attention from my foster mom, I am secretly very afraid of being dropped, and so much prefer being in her lap than being held in her arms.

While my foster mom is very pleased that I’m completely housebroken, I don’t know any other ‘typical’ doggie tricks. With my foster sister setting a good example, I’ve gradually been learning proper doggie etiquette in the house, such as coming when I’m called, and ‘leaving’ things if they’re not mine. I’m very responsive to training, however I’m very easily distracted by all the fun things going on in the house! I am especially distracted by kitties, and I can’t decide if they’re better ignored, or better chased.

I love hanging out with my foster sister, but get worried when we’re apart. I am also a little nervous when meeting new people, but regain my confidence rather quickly, which is great. I can easily be persuaded that these new situations aren’t so bad, and that other people besides my foster mom can give me lots of love (and tell me how cute I am).

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
