Jessie Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Jessie, and I am an incredibly sweet, friendly, playful, and loving 4-1/2 year old, spayed, 40 pound, female Lab/Sheltie mix!

I am just the nicest girl in the world, which makes it extra sad that my first owners (who adopted me from a local shelter) abandoned me in their rental apartment when they moved away. Just left me there! Thank goodness the landlord came around and eventually got me into Cayuga Dog Rescue. Life has been wonderful since then!

My foster mom calls me a “love hound.” She also calls me a ham, but I’m not sure what she means by that! I am happy pretty much all of the time, and get incredibly delighted when you are near, if you pay attention to me or pet or cuddle me, when we are going out for a walk, when there is another dog to play with, and when it's time to eat! :)

I’ve had a very eventful few months. I had hip surgery in January, but I’m just as happy and energetic as I ever was. That’s right—I’m only four and I’ve had hip surgery! I got hurt when I was a lot younger, but no one took care of me, so my joint didn’t heal the right way. The fantastic orthopedic vets at Cornell gave me a fancy surgery (femoral head osteotomy!), and I feel so much better. I did lots of physical therapy with my foster mom and I can walk on it just fine. I still hop around when I’m running, but that’s only because I move so much faster that way!

I have an awesome smile, a beautiful face, and super soft ears that I love having scratched. I know I'm gray in the muzzle, but honestly, I'm only 4-1/2 years old. They know this because they traced my microchip through the shelter I was originally adopted from. The shelter had me when I was about 2 (an easy age to guess from my teeth) and it's been 2-1/2 years since then, so I am definitely only 4!

I am very, very sweet. I love people and act like I just won the lottery when anyone pays attention to me and pets me! I'm also great with other dogs, am playful once I get to know them and get along with both small and large dogs, though am not particularly submissive. I have only been around cats on one brief occasion, and though I was fine, if you have cats, we would have to check me out a bit more on that.

I love to go for walks, but can pull pretty good on leash (even with a bum leg!), so I’ll need a Sensible or Sense-ation “No-pull” type harness. I am wild about squirrels, so need to be on leash or in a fenced yard at all times.

I can't wait to meet you, I have so much love to give and have been through such hard times, won't you give me a chance at a happy, joy-filled life with you?

I am a super sweetheart of a little girl! If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
