Jersey Has Been Adopted!

Hi everyone!! My name is Jersey, and I'm a super wonderful, easygoing, loving, goofy, and very affectionate, 2 year old, 80 pound, neutered male Great Dane/Hound mix! I’m not as big as your average Dane, but my foster family still calls me the Gentle Giant because I am tall, extremely relaxed, and an amazing cuddler.

In fact, one of my favorite things to do is to sidle up close to you and lean on you in the hopes that you will pet me or scratch my chest or my butt or pet my back! They tell me this is a Dane trait, and I guess that's sweet to know how affectionate we Danes are! When I'm not snuggling, I love to roam around my yard, sniff stuff, and play with my little Chihuahua/Pug sister. You’ll never believe this, but even though I outweigh her by 65 pounds I always let her win when we wrestle and "play-fight"— I’m telling you-- I’m a lover not a fighter! You don’t get to be known as the Gentle Giant for nothin!

I love going out for walks. My foster dad often takes me out for jogs too, and he tells me that I’m a great jogging companion—I run right next to him in a straight line and don’t pull. I'm not at all a hyper boy, but I am young, so good exercise really agrees with me and makes me happy. I would be over the moon to find someone who wanted to take good walks or jog or play ball with me in the yard daily!

I also love going to the dogpark, and I am wonderful with all of the dogs there. Some dogs can feel nervous about a tall boy like me, but I'm so sweet and friendly, they get over that right away. Wherever I go people compliment me on my pretty brindle face and brindle spots and my sweet personality. I love to "sing away" (read: bark a lot!) when I am at the dogpark (I have great pipes!), and also when I am outside in our backyard (so many noises to let you know about! so many squirrels to talk to!), but am generally quiet in the house. We live in town and our neighbors are very close, so sometimes my foster dad puts a no-bark citronella collar on me when I am out in the backyard so I don't disturb the neighbors with my singing. It works!

I’m very healthy and completely housebroken. My long legs do get me into trouble when I sniff something yummy up on the counters, so my foster dad has to keep food put away and out of my reach!

I was crate trained a while ago, but honestly, I don't need one. As I said, I am housebroken and don't do anything naughty in the house (unless you leave food out!) so I am fine to be left free in the house when you are away. I love to snuggle next to you on couches and in bed, but will be happy to learn to stay on the floor on dog beds if you prefer.

I love to eat! And I’m so smart and love my food so much that I’ve already learned “sit” and “lay down”, which I practice before each meal. It only took me two days to learn “sit!” I know that with enough patience and treats, I’ll be the smartest dog who knows the most tricks at the dog park in no time! I love learning (and I love the treats that come with learning), so would be so psyched if you wanted to take me to positive dog training classes!

I'm a super boy, and have been waiting for the right home for quite a while now! You will be overjoyed at how awesome and sweet I am!! If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
