Gypsy Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Gypsy and I am an absolutely adorable, very sweet and loving, 4-5 year-old, spayed female Pembroke Welsh Corgi!

I was used as a breeder in a small breeding operation in KY, and that was a pretty sad and depressing way to live. I'm so happy that the owners took me to the shelter, because now I can find a fabulous forever home where I will be a cherished family member.

I'm a very sweet little girl, though my years cooped up in the breeding place left me with some nervousness around people and things that are unfamiliar to me. During my first week in rescue, I was nervous and scared of most things, but I’m in my 2nd week now, and I’m relaxing really well. I already follow my foster mom happily from room to room, and then lay quietly by her feet. She tells me I have beautiful brown eyes and then kisses me on my nose and head, I never had anyone do this and I love it, sometimes I nuzzle up to her face and give her kisses back! What a glorious thing it is, she says. I also love it when she rubs my head and neck she could do that all day and I would be such a happy girl! Lately I have started hopping around to greet her when she comes home from work, which apparently is very, very adorable. My loving side is really starting to emerge and it feels so good! I have shown my foster mom that I am a good girl in the house and at night she now lets me sleep next to the bed on a big, soft pillow-wow I am loving that!

I am in a foster home with 2 other Corgis and a cat and get along well with everyone. Though I don’t want to play with the other dogs (at least not yet), I seem to take great comfort in having them around, and being a part of their doggy pack (which is not surprising given that I lived in a breeding place filled with other dogs). I love trotting around in the fenced yard with the other dogs and hanging around with them inside. Given this, the rescue folks feel that I need to be in a home with at least 1 other dog and I would be really excited if my forever home also had a fenced yard.

Strangers make me nervous, as do a lot of “normal” things like people walking near my yard or my foster mom stepping over me when I’m blocking her path. I can get spooked by noisy things, and loud or fast moving people, and I have a tendency to try to slip out the door when my foster mom is exiting. For all of these reasons, we don’t think I would be too relaxed or safe in a home with kids.

As most Pembroke Welsh Corgis, I am a bit of a barker! I bark when the other dogs in the neighborhood start barking, and can outlast them many times. I also bark when folks come to the house or walk by the yard--we Pembrokes are known to be good security alarms which is a terrific trait as long as you don’t have neighbors who mind.

I am a really sweet, beautiful, gentle, wonderful girl, and am hoping for a loving owner who will help me keep gaining confidence and experience in the wonderful world of being a cherished family companion.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
