Wally Has Been Adopted!

Hello! My name is Wally, and I am a super adorable, silly, funny, affectionate, curious and wonderful, 3 year-old, neutered, male Dachshund/Bassett Hound mix! I have a terrific , happy, playful personality and am a very loving, easygoing little guy.

I am friendly with every person I meet, but once I get to know you, I give you the total love treatment! I like to follow my my people around the house, because I just like hanging out with them, and am always delighted to get petted, have my belly rubbed, or my head and face kissed! I have extremely soft fur…they say it’s as soft and lush as puppy fur, even though I’m not a puppy anymore! I like to trot up to my people, all waggly and smiling, and gently put my front legs up on them for some loving. And if you enjoy a snuggler in bed with you...I am your boy! I just curl up gently right up against you and happily reposition anytime you need to move around. They say I am the best nighttime snuggle buddy they have ever met.

I am very curious, and intently watch everything and everyone around me, which probably means that I am quite smart. My people haven't done any training with me, so I could use a quick course on Sit and Wait (I do zip out the front door which is scary for my people!) and Stay, but I would learn very quickly, as I am so bright and focused. I am totally housebroken and am a perfect gentleman when left free to roam the house when my people are at work.

I am fabulous with other dogs! I love running around in a fenced yard with them and am a fantastic wrestling and “chase me!” buddy for dogs both large and small. I fancy myself a tiny bit of a watchdog, and do bark at people when they come to the door or to the yard when I am outside.

As for play, I love chasing after toys that my people throw for me, and I pounce upon them (quite adorably) before settling down to chew on the toy I have just “caught.” I am allowed on some pieces of furniture in the house but not others, and understand that easily (though I might pretend I have forgottten!).

I have been given quite a few nicknames. “Colonel Mustard” is one that cracks up my foster parents, though they can’t explain why it fits me. Also “Snaggle Tooth” because one of my lower pointy teeth sticks out giving me a snaggle tooth appearance sometimes. Also “Mr. Waggles” or “Wagglebutt” because I wag my whole body in delight so often. Can you tell they think I’m awfully cute?

There are no cats in my current home, so we would have to do some cat testing if you are interested in me and have cats.

So why is a great guy like me looking for a new home? Well, I was a most beloved foster dog when I was rescued and placed into a CDR foster home a year ago, and then got adopted to a wonderful couple who have loved me to bits. Unfortunately, they are splitting up, and both have very long work hours with a lot of work travel, and while it was fine when they were together, if I stayed with either one of them, I would spend far too much time alone. It is breaking their hearts to find me another home, but they feel it would be selfish to keep me and have me spend so much time on my own when I am such a loving, social, happy guy when people are around.

I am super healthy and up to date on vaccines and waiting to find a fun, happy, playful forever home! If you want to apply for Wally, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
