Colton Has Been Adopted!
Hello! My name is Colton and I am a 10-12 month old, 38 pound, neutered male Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix! I am a super sweet guy, I LOVE people, I LOVE playing with other dogs, I pretty much actually just love everything!
I was saved from a high-kill shetler in KY at the very last moment and am so glad to be in a wonderful foster home. There are 5 other dogs in it and 2 nice people. I’m terrific with the dogs…not pushy at all and very playful. I leave the older ones alone (who want to be left alone) and play with the younger ones (who want to play)!
I love being outside for walks and to run around in the yard. I would love visiting the dogpark probably, as I love playing with other dogs and am very easygoing in meeting new ones. I LOVE snow!!! I roll around in it making “snow angels” and pounce on big snow drifts on the sides of the roads. It’s very comical, this pouncing, and makes my foster parents laugh a lot.
I’m very laid back in the house (as long as I have had my leashed walk and/or some good play sessions in the fenced yard with the other dogs), and entertain myself well. I chew on hard chew toys with delight, and throw toys around so I can pounce on and chase them from time to time. I love being petted and massaged, and especially like being toweled off/massaged with a towel when I come in with snow all over me. I close my eyes and lean into you and look so content and happy, I’m told it melts the heart.
My coat is luscious! Typical Golden Retriever coat, but a bit fluffier than normal. I have gold and blonde highlights in my fur, that my foster mom says people pay huge sums of money to get! I went to the groomers (The Grooming Room) when I first got here and wow, did that do wonders for me!!! She made me look like a million bucks, and I was a very good boy for her. Since my coat is longish and fluffy, I would probably do best having a bath every month or two and occasional brushing.
I don’t bark a lot on my own, but join the other dogs when they bark, and do bark at the deer in the woods behind my foster home. I do a good job (with the other dogs) at “protecting the house” from those deer, which is probably my Great Pyrenees genes coming through. Great Pyrs were bred to protect sheep from predators, and I do keep a good eye on what is out there in the woods, so that I can protect my home pack.
I am housebroken, though have access during the day to a doggy door that goes into a fenced yard, so might need some help transitioning to “holding it” during the day when I move to my new home. My foster mom just started doing some training with me, and I catch on very quickly!! I already know “sit” and am learning “watch” and adore the little pieces of cheese and freeze dried liver that she uses in our training. Yum! I am fine in a crate, but am trustworthy enough to be left free in half of the house during the day (with the other dogs). I am fine and don’t do any damage, though my foster parents puppy proof the area very well. I am definitely still a bit of a “puppy,” needing to be helped to learn what is ok to chew on and what is not; if left free without puppy proofing, I would no doubt get into some normal puppy trouble like chewing on shoes and blankets and such.
My ideal home has 1 other young, friendly dog in it with whom I can play, and a nice fenced yard (at least 5 feet high). I would love a new mom or dad who was interested in continuing my training, as I love learning new things, and love the bonding that comes from working with you. Ok, I like the treats too!!
