Boomer Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Boomer and I am a 1-2 year-old, 65 pound, amazing and soulful, silly and goofy and completely good-natured, neutered, Great Pyrenees / Hound mix! I am an incredibly lovable boy and I get along super great with all people, every dog I have met, and cats!

I came into rescue after being saved from a high-kill shelter in KY. I am being fostered at the Bed and Biscuit Kennels since that time, and wow, is this a fun place to be! I get to play with dogs for much of the day, and the owners of the kennel are incredibly sweet and kind and loving. I have become their mascot, and they say I am “just perfect” with every dog and every person I interact with. Talk about a well-socialized dog…I am the best!

I’m very playful and very affectionate. I love being petted, snuggling next to you, and laying my head in your lap. I look up at you with my big soulful, sweet eyes, and just about melt your heart. I’m also very smart, and though I only know a few commands, could learn a ton if you had the time to teach me. I would also make an incredible agility dog, as I am naturally agile and athletic and love to do things with you!

I'm still a pretty young guy so I need a decent amount of exercise. Playing with other dogs is my favorite way to get it (either with your other dogs, your friends’ dogs, or at the dogpark), but I am really good on a leash too, so leashed walks are a big favorite as well. I also love to go for easygoing jogs and will help you keep a relaxed pace. Because Great Pyrenees dogs are big "wanderers" and Hounds follow their noses when outside, I can’t ever be off leash unless I am inside of a safely fenced yard (at least 5 feet high, 6 feet would be better!). That's ok with me though, I love being around you and don't want to get lost and wind up in a shelter every again!!

I am a tall but quite lean boy, so am likely to put on a few pounds over the next couple years. I have a gorgeous, thick, beautiful, and super soft coat and (not to toot my own horn or anything), I smell wonderful, and am a very accomplished cuddler. I'm generally quiet although sometimes I whine if I am bored or am ready to get up in the morning, and I bark occasionally when I want some attention but I'm more welcoming than wary of company, so I don't bark very often.

When I am inside, I like to alternate between playing with you, with my toys, with other dogs, and napping. Like most young dogs, sometimes I get my toys confused with other things (like shoes), but I'm a good listener and a quick learner. I understand that I should do all my bathroom business outside and I do my best to let someone know when I have to go.

My ideal home would have a very loving, active person or people, and maybe another dog with whom I could play! Cats would be great too, as long as they don’t mind a friendly, goofy boy in their house. For exercise I'll either need a couple of good walks a day, a 2-3 mile easy jog, or a tall fenced yard in which to play.

I am truly an amazing boy...incredibly sweet, fun, loving, affectionate, smart, easygoing, funny, and soulful. You won’t believe how awesome I am when you meet me!

If you are interested in me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
