Bear Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Bear ('cause I am a big teddy bear!) and I am an extremely wonderful, exceptionally soulful, loving, affectionate, kind, and gentle, 1-1/2 year old, 90 pound, neutered male Great Pyrenees/Lab mix.

I was saved from a high-kill shelter in KY (thanks to my godmother Rhonda!) and am in a fabulous foster home with a wonderful foster mom and 2 terrific corgi dogs for foster siblings. When the corgis are out of earshot, my foster mom tells me that I am the best dog she has ever met. I think that's saying a lot because she has known a lot of dogs!

Once I get to know you, I love belly rubs, kisses, hugs, snuggling and being petted. I calmly and quietly follow my foster mom around from room to room and lay close by without being intrusive. I wag my tail almost constantly when I am awake, pat my foster mom with my paw to let her know that I want to be petted, and give high-fives with my paw upon greeting her! I play nice and gently with the 2 corgis because they are so small compared to me. I'm great with every dog I have met--not just the corgis. I was at the Bed and Biscuit Kennel for 2 weeks before I went into my foster home and I played with tons of dogs there every day. I am also fine with cats...just basically ignore them.

I am housebroken, walk very nicely on leash, love to greet other dogs on leash, and take treats gently from your hand. I am very healthy and extremely laid back for a dog as young as me!

I love winter! I love to lay in the snow and sometimes roll around on my back making snow angels. I enjoy eating snow (the white kind!), and sometimes dig a hole in the snow and bury my whole head in it, ostrich style. I make my foster mom laugh a lot.

I am comfortable quickly with women, but am somewhat shy with men. It will take time for me to learn to deeply trust a man and to come to him when he calls me, but if a very kind and patient man is understanding and helps me with this, I am sure I will get there.

I'm fairly tall, and love to check out what is on the counters and tables, but so far have not taken anything. Then again, my foster mom isn't leaving food or other irresistible things out. She is smart! I do bark at people going by, and at dogs in other yards, but not excessively. Just to let them know that I am there, protecting my foster mom and her dogs.

I seem to be anxious about being left at home completely alone (without other dogs), but have been doing well left alone in the company of the other dogs. Assuming this doesn't change over time, I will need to go to a home with another dog in it. I also am very private about "doing my business" outside, and do much better if I can be let outside by myself in a fenced yard for that purpose. My ideal home therefore, has at least 1 other dog and a fenced yard.

We Great Pyrenees pooches are big roamers and not the sort of dog who can be trusted on an invisible fence. So please have a hard fence if you have a fence for me!

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
