Huck Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Huck and I am a super friendly, super affectionate, 5 year-old, 80 pound, neutered, male (probably full-bred) Black Lab!

I am a big hunk of love and a very handsome boy. I lived with a family since I was small with 5 other dogs (large and very small dogs) and 15 cats! Unfortunately, my family had to move out of their home and they couldn't take us pets with them. We spent some time living on our own in the house, with someone stopping by to feed and water us, but there was no heat in the house and it was hard for folks to come by regularly, so things were getting pretty desperate. I'm happy to say that all of us dogs have found placements (in a shelter or rescue group or a new home or a kennel), and now county folks are working hard to help the cats.

I just got rescued yesterday, so I can tell you a little bit about me, with more info coming in a week or so. One thing is for sure..I am a lover!!!! Love to be petted, cuddled, hugged, and I love to give kisses to everyone I meet!! I also seem very nice when meeting other dogs...just enthusiastic and happy and interested. I am a talker! Nope, I don't bark really at all (at least I haven't barked at all yet), but I do this sort of half-singing, half-whining thing when I am excited and interested which was cracking up the rescue lady a ton. It's my version of saying, "oh a new person! hello, hello, hello to you! I am so happy to make your acquaintance!" or "oh my goodness, my belly is being rubbed, I am in heaven, please please please don't stop!" it's very sweet. I am great in the car, have been great with every person I've met, am great with dogs, and though the rescue folks haven't cat tested me, since I lived with 15 cats for the past many years, I think we can safely assume I am good with cats!

I went to the vet this morning and she says that I am generally quite healthy and robust, but I have some sort of itchy skin allergies or another ithcy skin issue that needs to be taken care of. I have almost no fur on my entire tail from chewing it off (so sad!) and I show signs of having scratched at myself a lot in recent months. I'm being given some prednisone for the itch and will be getting medicated baths twice weekly to help get my skin and coat in healthier shape. In a month or so I should be in much better condition. My toenails were also so long that they were curling under my feet, so the vet tech clipped them all and now I can walk so much better! People are being so nice to me, I am very grateful.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
