Charlie Has Been Adopted!
Hi! My name is Charlie, and I am a very sweet, friendly, fun, smart, athletic, sensitive, and affectionate 5 year-old, neutered, male Lab/Shepherd mix!
I will melt your heart, and I think that's a good thing. I am a very affectionate guy who loves to give kisses and snuggles, and loves it when you scratch my ears and neck, and rub my belly and chest! I also have a great zest for life and love nothing more than taking long walks with my foster mom, going jogging with my foster dad, playing with my tennis ball, lounging on soft things near my people, and being well loved. It all makes me so happy, as you can tell by my constant smiles.
I’m also an enthusiastic guy! I love my walks, especially when I get to roam a bit on my retractable leash through the woods and fields. My foster mom has taught me a lot about walking nicely next to her on the street, which I’ve learned is where the yummy treats are earned! I haven’t done much swimming yet, but I truly enjoy wading in the water, especially on these hot and muggy days. I love to stick my whole nose under water, which seems to crack people up!
My foster mom has taught me to retrieve a tennis ball and it’s a load of fun for both of us! I also am super talented at playing “hide and seek” with the tennis ball, and this is notable as I am both the “hider” and the “seeker” in the game (whichiI am told is very, very cute)! But perhaps my favorite tennis ball pastime involves the fine art of “defuzzing.” Yup, I rid each tennis ball of all that unnecessary fuzz and seem to feel quite proud of each bald tennis ball that I create (it’s ok --- I don’t eat the fuzz). It’s important to me to have a walk or some exercise in the morning and a short walk in the evening, but for the rest of the day (and all through the night), I’m quite relaxed and mellow and enjoy laying around in the house.
My foster parents say that I am very smart and thoughtful. I’ve learned a bunch of impressive behaviors such as sit, down, stay, come, shake, and leave it! I passed a basic obedience class that I took with my foster dad at the TC SPCA, and the teacher said I did a fabulous job! OK, the teacher could be a tad biased, since she happens to also be my foster mom, but really, I did a bang-up job. Other notable accomplishments on my resume are that I’m fine with taking baths, am fully housebroken, am good in the car, and am relaxed about thunderstorms!
I’ve been crate trained, but I am fine when left free run of the house. Since I really prefer to sleep on my dog bed under a sunny window when my people are out of the house rather than be in a crate, my foster parents let me do so. No accidents and no getting into trouble! I enjoy Kongs stuffed with food or peanut butter, Nylabones (the hard non-edible type), rope toys, and of course all tennis balls!
My people take note of how nicely I have greeted both male and female dogs on walks. I visited the dog park once and had fun running around with the other dogs. The rescue folks promise that we’ll carefully check out the dog-dog chemistry of any potential adopters who have a dog in their home. One thing we know for sure…I love to chase cats, so no cats in my forever home please.
I'm a terrific all-around boy, with so much love to give. I'm healthy and wonderful and have the softest, yummiest fur around! I hope very much to find a forever home with a loving person or people who want to go for long walks with me (or hikes or even runs!), and who will be understanding and patient as I adjust to a new, permanent home. If you think you might like to adopt me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.
